To re-order a new card you will need to visit your Local Branch.

How do I change my address?

To change your address on your account you will need to visit your local branch taking in proof of your new address, such as a Utility Bill or Bank Statement (dated within the last 3 months.)

If you are unable to visit your local branch then you could write to your branch sending the proof of your new address.

How do I send a payment to my account?

BACS - standard payment

To transfer funds via BACS to Bradford & Bingley, you will need to quote the following information to your Bank/Building Society:

  • Sort Code: 13-40-00
  • Account Number: Your 8 digit Bradford & Bingley Account Number (e.g. 00000000)
  • Ref Number: Your full 12 digit Bradford & Bingley Reference Number (e.g. 123AB456789C)

OR

CHAPS - fast track payment

How are my savings covered?

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme now covers 100% of the first £50,000 of each depositors claim. Customers with joint accounts will be eligible to claim up to £100,000 per total deposit.

Bradford & Bingley's retail savings business is owned by Abbey, part of the Santander Group.

Abbey has its own authorisation. Bradford & Bingley is not a separate legal entity and sits under the Abbey authorisation. All amounts held by savers in Bradford & Bingley have been transferred to Abbey and will sit under Abbey's authorisation.

How do I transfer my ISA from Bradford & Bingley to another provider?

In order to transfer your Bradford & Bingley ISA to another provider we require your written confirmation.

Please note - Some providers will require you to complete a transfer form, so it’s a good idea to check your new provider's procedure first.

Once the request has been received by Bradford & Bingley the transfer process can take up to 30 days to complete. After which we will write to confirm your transfer has been completed.

We can pay interest without taking off tax if you have completed the following form to show you are eligible to have interest paid in full.You are able to download this form using the link below:

Unfortunately we are unable to offer new accounts to non-UK Residents. However, Bradford & Bingley International may be able to assist you.

Can I access branch/postal accounts via the internet?

If you opened you account in the branch or via the post then you will not be able to access your account via the internet. We only have a certain number of accounts available with Internet access. These accounts will have been opened online.

What identification do I need to open an account in branch?

You will need to take 2 forms of identification -

One form of personal I.D such as:

  • Current UK/non UK passport
  • Current pension book
  • Current driving licence
  • Personal cheque drawn on a UK Bank / Building Society

And

One form of address I.D such as:

  • Utility bill (dated within the last 3 months)
  • Residential telephone bill (dated within the last 3 months - we are unable to accept mobile telephone bills)
  • Council tax bill (dated within the last 12 months)
  • Mortgage statement (dated within the last 12 months)

If you're thinking of opening an ISA account you will also need your National Insurance number.

Do I need to send ID when opening a postal savings account?

No. In order to verify the information you provide we will make searches about you with a Credit Reference Agency - this will include information from the electoral roll.

If we are unable to verify your identity in this way we will write to you requesting the necessary identification.

The cheque needs to be made payable to yourself as the account holder.
